Sound effects, screeching brakes, engine, gun shots
connotation= danger, war
Non diegetic
Voice over
Incidental music is music that helps communicate emotions in a scene for example music can star of calm then get more intense/dramatic as the scene progresses.
Music that reflects the events taking place, can comment on tempo, pace
for example low tempo music could reflect the equilibrium(balance)
Music, where does music start playing in film etc.

Mise en scene

Starter Task
Five things in an indie rock music video.
1) Instruments- Connotes music creating
2) Band Performing- connotes their own performance
3) Stage Location- connotes where they would like to be e.g. outdoors
Five thing in a Horror Film
1) Dark lighting (low key lighting)
2) Characters
3) Blood- connotes danger
4) Secluded locations- reinforces fear, as can not escape
The 5 things I should talk about!!
1)Locations(diegesis)
2)Costume/make-up(prosthetics)
3)Props
4)Colours/Lighting
5)Gestures( how the person, character acts, are they running a lot, are they fighting a lot)

(Encoded= Embedded on purpose)

1)Stereotypes(does costume reinforce age?)
2)Narrative (does the story reinforce narrative?)
3)Genre- (Does the story reflect the film?)

MISE EN SCENE= Everything within the frame
1)Location (Diegesis, how does Location fit into the diegesis)
Does it encode verisimilitude?- Is it realistic
What does the location suggest? survival etc.
2. Costume/Make up, Does it reflect the mood of the character/environment the character is based in
3. Props, props are anything that are handheld, for example in notorious movie, things like guns are props, prop is short for property, props can also be used to in-force, control, microphone to in-force the music, lifestyle on the crowd in my film. How are the props etc.
Microphone, Gun.
Iconography
Items that create stereotypical representations that become well known and recognised e.g. microphone, stereotypical to a Brooklyn black male. (ideologies )

Colours/lighting
They connote moods and emotions
Low key lighting, high key/natural lighting
Low key lighting= Scenes with shadows. This reinforces the disequilibrium (dis-balance)
Things like fear, danger, foreshadowing events coming up are associated with this.
High key lighting= Scenes with bright light, connotes happiness, and positive moods/emotions in general.

This is England example
Their was natural lighting outside
there was low key lighting inside in some places. which represented negativity in some aspects
however the high key lighting represents positive, warmth in outside places.

5.GESTURES
Gender of the character's ?
Protagonist of the characters ?
What do gestures connote about the character

For locations and iconography at least two examples
For characters and action gestures, compare to different types of people e.g. biggie and lil ceaze, (protagonist, antagonist, male vs female)
Costume and makeup(what are people wearing) compare, upper class, lower class maybe)
props, 2/3 significant props
lighting and colour, examples of high and key and low key lighting
protagonist Biggie montage, jump cutting in studio, elipses of car lights, reverse shot structure montage cuts editing

Editing

Editing

The shot used here is a high angle over the shoulder shot of Biggie juxtaposed at the character lil cease which connotes the class and power difference between lil cease and the protagonist Biggie.

A montage cut is also denoted to represent Biggie rising in mainstream popularity as it keeps cutting while he is in the studio for example it cuts from him in the studio recording his hit song "juicy" to the cd's and album covers of the album being made as it is cutting between these scenes connoting to the user that Biggie is finally starting to make it, it then skips to a time lapse of the city as it is fast forwarding e.g. to like i stated before connoting that his album is being made etc.

Camera work analysis
There are many camera angles throughout the notorious movie, one example of this is in one of the opening scenes where the rapper Biggie, is having a "rap battle" the shot used is this scene is a close up shot, this emphasises on the character as the shot is a close up of Biggie,
Other examples of camera shots in this film are in the scene where juicy Is being recorded,
